Adulting 101: Life Skills for Teens In-Person
All 7th-12th grade students in Yolo County are invited to attend “Adulting 101: Life Skills for Teens” hosted by the City of Woodland Public Library and Yolo County Office of Education. This free event will be held on Saturday, March 15 from 9:00-3:00 at the Woodland Community and Senior Center at 2001 East St, Woodland, CA 95776.
Adulting 101 kicks off with a welcome from the Teen Advisory Board President, Sarah Mandujano followed by Yolo County Office of Education Superintendent, Garth Lewis.
Adulting 101 will end with a closing speech from special guest, Mychal Threets. Mychal is best known for his inspiring TikTok page, where he talks about mental health and the importance of libraries.

There will be 4 sessions and students can choose one introductory course per session to attend. Some courses are only offered once. Registration begins February 1st. Here is a sneak peek of some of the sessions! Attending all day will provide students with 6 hours of community service.

Sustainability for a Greener Future—City of Woodland Environmental Services
Join EnviroWoodland for a presentation on sustainable living for young adults. Discover practical ways to make a positive impact on the environment through recycling, composting, and water conservation. Learn about the importance the 5 R’s to minimize our ecological footprint; Explore the benefits of organics recycling and how it transforms food waste into valuable compost for agriculture; Dive into water conservation techniques and simple habits to reduce your water use (and water bill)! This will be an interactive presentation with chances to win prizes to put what you’ve learned into action.

The Power of Budgeting for Teens—Edward Jones
Power of Budgeting for Teens is a 60-minute interactive seminar that explores how budgeting and setting short and long-term financial goals can help your financial well-being. We will examine savings and checking accounts and help you better understand credit and debt to help you reach your future goals.

Food Smarts Waste Reduction—CalFresh
We provide this curriculum to teens and young adults for them to learn about SB1383 to reduce food waste at all levels for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving climate change, and the curriculum centers on how participants can reduce household food waste, since this is the number one contributor to food waste worldwide. We focus on where to store food in the house, where what should go i.e. pantry vs refrigerator, how to make produce last longer and produce storage to minimize waste, eating seasonal produce, and discuss composting. We provide a healthy recipe sample for taste-testing as well.

This workshop will be informative and interactive. Our number one goal is to make sure that we share information that you, the participants, would like to know more about. Our workshop will include topics such as STI facts, practicing safe sex, gender identity and sexuality, boundaries, where/how to get the resources and support you need, and what taking care of our mind/body/soul looks like. We will make space for a Q+A and provide a way to submit questions anonymously for discussion. The time we carve out is for you, so we encourage you to consider what you want to learn more about and bring it to our session.
